Yes they do, they never used to but they do now. You can still get a line however, you would just need to pay a deposit and set up direct debit.

I think you will be ok as long as you agree to pay via direct debit ! We have broadband and we pay for it on the same bill as the phone bill .

but they can ask for an upfront payment

when i had mine installed they waivered it

and i had never been with them before so they knew nothing of my history

they put the payment on your first bill, which is weird, but its right
