About six years ago my boyfriend was charged with statutory rape (sex with a minor with her consent). We are now renting an apartment they did credit check and we both passed. When we got the credit report back it said PENDING background check. I asked the lady do we get a report of that and she said no its just to make sure your not a crimminal on the run and she laughed. Bring the actual paperwork showing your name as the %26#039;victim%26#039; and they will likely not have a problem with it since you are now of age. Ok to explain everything. I want this job, this job runs a credit check and there is no me. I dont have credit or a credit card at all (I%26#039;m 18). But I dont even exist in the system (experian and the other two). I have a bank account and have had at least two other jobs before this, so how is this possible?

I wouldn%26#039;t get in the habit of using credit, especially since you are young. You can talk with your interviewer and inform them that you don%26#039;t use credit (debt, really).
Since you are young I would encourage you to get in to the habit of using your own money for everything you buy. A credit score is NOT an indication of your wealth or ability to pay. 2. I%26#039;ve heard conflicting advice on that. I%26#039;ve heard 2 points each time. But I don%26#039;t think that%26#039;s correct. If you%26#039;re applying for credit left and right, you%26#039;re going to look like you%26#039;re desperate. Lenders don%26#039;t want to see a bunch of inquiries on your credit report.
3. Call the credit card company and ask. If you have been a good customer they may be willing to raise your limits.
4. Where did I get these answers? I%26#039;m a mortgage loan officer. I specialize in loans for people with credit problems. I don%26#039;t like just turning people down and telling them to have a nice life. So, I decided to educate myself about credit. Your FICO score is based upon your credit history, plus how much available credit you have. Having too much available credit will ding your score, but unfortunately I don%26#039;t know how much is too much.
You can check your credit report once a year for free. Anymore than that and the credit agencies will charge you. Credit checks will take a few points off your score, but again I don%26#039;t know how much.
I think if you did some research on one of the major credit agency websites you could get specific answers to your questions. I think there is a website called myfico.com where you can order your score plus find out some valuable information.

Your second paragraph speaks to the point that they%26#039;re going to check your credit anyway - so you%26#039;re right in thinking the credit references on the application are more a formality than anything. I%26#039;d recommend you list things for which you are currently indebted, such as car loans, student loans, and the like - and for which you are on time.
At least as important to a potential landlord or property manager in my opinion are good prior rental references. The combination of timely payment on your credit obligations and favorable references from folks who have rented to you and can vouch for you first-hand are an unbeatable combination.
I went out of business 3 years ago, however I still use 2 of my American Express Business cards that still have my old business name on them.

Most business credit cards, are in the business name, but guaranteed by you personally. If you are late or default, it will magically appear on your personal credit. (you cosigned for your business)

Same order for me. If I can put something on a credit card, I do it. I always pay it off every month. But I find it%26#039;s easier to track my expenses and set a budget when I use credit cards. I use cash only when it%26#039;s more convenient, like in a bar, or for a small restaurant check.
As for checks, I don%26#039;t write any on a regular basis any longer. All my utilities, mortgage, and other bills are direct debit or go on my credit card. Tis a wonderfully convenient world we live in! :)
When I was checking my credit report, it says that I took out a mortgage in February of 2002 and asks for some information about it in order to verify that it is my report.

Yes it could be a trick question. If you don%26#039;t have one don%26#039;t aswer as yes. I got mine check out and it asked questions like that, I believe if somebody is trying to access it and they are not you they won%26#039;t know the answer. So is more like to protect you. However they should be some questions that do apply to you. I had a question asking what company I have for a loan I took, and it mentioned like three different companies, one was mine and I clicked then it ask how much per month do I pay. These are personal questions. Once u open the credit report u will see what is there and if something is not then u need to contact the credit companys for possibly frau*d. i hope this is not the case for you. HTH

Check none of the above and be sure not to type in any personal information if you don%26#039;t feel right about it or don%26#039;t trust the site. (You can always see your report without your score for free at annualcreditreport.com, by law)
It is a trick question. Answer it truthfully. How else are they going to know if it is you? I got the same question while I was trying to check my report. It is just so they can throw off somebody who wouldn%26#039;t necessarily know if you had a loan or not.
It%26#039;s entirely possible that they have the wrong information listed on your credit report and in fact are reporting that you do have a mortgage. It happened to us.
We pulled my husband%26#039;s report and they had him owing back child support(he had no children) and also showed several charged off accounts that were not his. They even had a defaulted mortgage listed when he had never owned a house.
Equifax had merged someone elses account information on his credit report. The other person had a very similar social security number. We disputed the information and Equifax promptly removed all but one of the charged off accounts. We had to fight the company to get that account removed, but did eventually get it taken off.
Perhaps you could check one of the other credit agencies first if you want to do an online check. Maybe try to pull the report again and they might ask you a different question this time? You may end up having to order your report by mail. By all means, check it out. You will probably find errors that need to be changed. Good luck!

Best bet is to get the credit card company to correct the error. They reported the information to the credit bureau, it is much easier for them to correct it.
If they will not help, your ex needs to contact the credit bureau and complain about it appearing on his report. They will investigate and update as appropriate.

you each need to contact the credit agency and file a claim to correct the information. in most cases, they can take care of that sort of thing in a matter of days. i have disputed several items on my own report... it is great that you are keeping a close eye on that stuff, too! good catch and i am sure contacting the credit agency who produced the report will be sufficient. also, be prepared to produce past credit card statements showing that he wasn%26#039;t on it and never used the card... failing all else, simply cancel the card and get a new one! :) you may need to make sure that his info isn%26#039;t still connected to you in your credit history... by law the credit agencies are supposed to help you out with that stuff... give them a chance to do it.
Write a formal letter to the credit agency disputing the charge. Send it certified, return-receipt requested and save your receipts. In the letter, list that you have contacted the credit card and they agree that your ex is not on the card nor is he responsible, then list their phone number and address so that the bureau can reach them to verify.
After all of this, you should receive a letter in the mail showing that it has been removed on your credit. If you haven%26#039;t heard back in 6 weeks, do the letter again and send copies of the first letter too. Again, send it certified and return-receipt requested.
It takes stick-to-it-ness, but it works.
Also: Credit bureaus often want to confirm your identity in the letter. Each has different requirements. Some have fees involved.
Some want driver%26#039;s license numbers and a copy of a recent bill proving you%26#039;re at that address.

No credit card company wants to give credit to someone if they know they are not entitled to it. Reason: they can%26#039;t collect money or interest or penalties. They lose money. He will be off promptly.

Some of these answers are not correct.. A FICO is determined by a number of things - for instance if you have your credit pulled by numerous %26quot;similar%26quot; agencies (like a bunch of automobile shops, or a bunch of mortgage companies) it will hit you far less b/c they consider you as a %26quot;shopper%26quot;. 1-2 pulls will have no effect on your credit within 90 days.
Any more pulls other than 2 within a 90 day window will affect your credit slightly, but it is barely noticeable. I work as a credit counsellor and am very familiar with this.
Also take note that correcting your address and work history as 1 address and 1 job within the past 12 years can typically boost your scores approximately 10-22 points.
You are alloted a certain amount of credit pulls before it starts affecting the score. Usually its after 6 hits in an 12 month period. You can go to MyFICO.com and that may have an exact answer. Its ok to have your credit pulled, just do get carried away.
Each time someone get your score few points are deducted, it%26#039;s not a big deal, so it won%26#039;t change anything just don%26#039;t do that every month.
Pulling your own credit report does not affect your scores or count as an inquiry. Go to annualcreditreport.com- pull all 3 bureaus free once per year. It does cost if you want your score though.

If it comes back as bad and you have relied on it for your checks or debit purchases or electronic payments, then the cascading insufficient funds fees are really going to hammer you. I am having trouble with the Equifax Credit Bureau.They are not updating my current address on my credit file though I applied for credit from my new address which eventually changed the address on my credit file in Experian and Transunion.I also have faxed them a proof of my current address with a copy of my photo ID and also a letter clearly requesting them to update my address.I am having a lot problem lately for renting a car or leasing an apartment and almost everything that involves a credit check and every commercial organization request a credit report from Equifax which in my case they are not able to get because of the outdated address on my file.

If it has been longer than 35 days (if you are using a paid report) -or longer than 50 days (if you used the free FACT-Act reports), since you have done your personal information dispute with Eq. then I agree with Michael, file a complaint with the FTC. Also file a complaint with your states attorney general.
The times that I listed are the legal time periods for the credit bureaus to handle any disputes etc on your reports. So if it has not been that long since you tried to update your personal info, wait until it is before you file complaints.

No they cannot garnish your SSDI no matter what state you live in.
Be very careful because even if your SSDI is exempt, and you have it in a bank account, they may try to grab it (even though it is illegal). If they do, you can get it back but it will take time.
If you have it in a bank account that you deposit other funds into, say your spouses check, a birthday check from your great aunt Ruth etc., that leaves the door open for them to garnish your bank account.
So, unless you have an account that is only used for your SSDI checks, I would suggest closing that account. Then either open another account or just deal in cash.

Secured credit cards DO NOT work that way. You have a set amount you have to give them, say $500. This will be your limit but instead of being able to just put the money back in when you use the card, you have to pay interest on your own money. then, you have to be prepared to pay annual fees and other nonsense charges on your own money. Oh, and you would have payments to them that you could probably be able to pay on line or mail to them. I dont think you can put more money in to raise how much you can spend on it either. You go to your bank, and open a savings account with a secured credit card on it.
It is the money in the savings account that secures the credit, so that if you default the money is there to cover it.
Keep a limit on your transactions. At first (before you rent a car) but small items ( tank of gas) and pay it off without closing. If you have the money to rent the car in cash, then rent the car on your card, and pay it off in full when you are done using the car. The whole idea is not to have more then 10% balance to your limit by the billing period.
This is how you establish credit. Because it goes on your credit report, this will help you later.
In teaching people how to esblish and maintain credit, I teach them to have 3 trade lines (credit cards, student loans, car loans etc) and to keep the balances down. Over pay on your account every time, this will boost your scores.
In your case, take out 3 savings account at $500 each. Use one for utilites (pay off by end of month) one for car rentals and one for daily expenses. If you maintain a 10% balance for 6 months, then they will consider removing the secure end, or raising your limits. NEVER AT ANY TIME CARRY A BALANCE OVER 10%!

NCO is a collection agency, and a reputable one at that, they collect on all sorts of debt. 100 bucks? Might be an old utility bill.
Offer them 70 bucks. Get a settlement offer in writing. Ask them if they%26#039;d be willing to offer you a deletion. chances are if they are working contengency (placement paper) they wont delete, and youll have pay them, but ask the original creditor for a delition, which in more chances than not, get rejected. If they purchased the debt, and own it, Im sure they%26#039;d be willing to offer a deletion.
Some companies run a credit check on prospective employees. If someone has a debt consolidation on their credit history will this be a reason to not get the job? I meet and exceed the job requirements?

Debt consolidation will generally not rule you out, but a negative credit score overall will.
I assume that the credit check is run to see if there are any concerns about how you will handle money. If you apply for a job where a credit check is done, you may want to be upfront about the information that will come up. A debt consolidation at least shows that you are honorably trying to pay off your debts.
Bad credit hurts you the most if you are going to be working in a bank or some other financial institution or around money in general. If money doesn%26#039;t relate to the job you are applying for, you should be fine.

credit checks are done to see how responsible you are with finances and if you have any credit issues that could compromise your ability to do a job. this is very prevalent in any job that deals with money (cash, checks, sales, accounts payable, accounts receivable et-cetra). if you refuse to allow a credit or background check they simply do not have to consider you for employment. if a background check or credit check is used as the reason to deny you employment you do have the right to get a copy of the report and to have any errors corrected. mistakes can happen and the companies that do theses checks as well as credit reporting agencies have the system in place for you to have errors corrected.
You have no recourse...either you agree or they will not consider you for the job...... Employers have found that those with good credit are more responsible and less likely to steal
Generally, responsible people are responsible workers and if you have major issues you might be incline to steal from them

Follow the steps above and you will be fine. Remember that your credit score has very little to do with whether or not you get a school loan. Some banks do. I work at Bank of America and I see it all the time. However as long as someone doesn%26#039;t have the expiration date you are fine since you need it to do a CC transaction. The account number is just one piece of the pie.

I am not aware of any secured credit cards in the UK. However, aqua credit card and Vanquis Abacus Visa Card are easy to get with little or bad credit.
Do not get a vanquis card like someone previously suggested. First of all, whoever told you you didnt have enough premium cards is on crack. There%26#039;s no such thing-- the credit bureaus only know that your car is a %26quot;Washington Mutual Visa%26quot;, not whether or not is is a %26quot;platinum%26quot;.
Not to mention, many cards these days call their lowest cards platinum or preferred cards.
It may have told you that you dont have enough revolving debt or something like that, but it didn%26#039;t mean you needed %26quot;fancier%26quot; cards.
Closing your cards and opening new ones will actually ding you-- you want long term history.

OK just read your comments. I don%26#039;t know what you read but in over 7-years of looking at credit reports I have never seen anything like what you describe. Like Amanda said the credit buresus have no way of knowing what type of card you have only how you have used it.
Call the two companies that you have your credit cards with and ask them to upgrade them.
I did that with mine not too long ago. In fact, I don%26#039;t know why I didn%26#039;t think of it long ago. I upgraded to a better card with cash back. All these years, I%26#039;d been spending money and getting no cash back on that card.
Be careful about opening and closing accounts. You would be better off credit score wise to keep the accounts you have but ask them to upgrade the cards.
A REAL credit report does not say you don%26#039;t have enough of ANYTHING. It is a REPORT not an analysis. Most of the %26#039;suggestions%26#039; attached to the last copy of my report I saw had NOTHING to do with what was on my report.
That said, I talked to a self-made millionaire last month. First as other have said the Credit Reports have no idea if you have a Secured, Regular, or Premium type of card. The negative factors are an analysis that they try to do to give you an idea of what you need to work on. But depending on the suggestion it may have little to no effect. If they are talking about type of Credit that is a very small factor in credit scoring, the biggest factors are payment history and balances. If you have not already done so, get your Credit Score. If you are in the High 600%26#039;s or above you are in fine shape, above 700 and you are in Excellent shape and you really don%26#039;t have to worry.
Now, not really worrying about what the report said, here are some suggestions.
First don%26#039;t close out your current cards as that will hurt you even more as it lowers your available credit. You should always keep your total useage under 30% of your total available credit.
Call your credit companies and ask for a Credit Limit Increase, the worst they will say is No.
Don%26#039;t just go out and apply for dozens of cards at one time to try and get one. These will cause a lot of inquiries and will also kill your score. If you can find one or two apply for those.
nearly three years ago I was in a motorcycle wreck and wracked up a lot of medical bills. I paid all of my bills except the hospital bill which I filed bankruptsy on (I just didnt happen to have an extra 90 grand lying around). One of my doctor bills I was slow to pay on and it went to a debt collector by the time I had the money to pay it. Long story short I paid the debt collector for the bill but when I recently had a credit check run on me I was told that the bill was still on my credit report marked as unpaid. I was told to contact a credit agency and tell them it was paid but my question is; how do I contact a credit agency and make them fix the error on my report? Who do I call or where do I go?
Contact the original company you had the debt with. Get a letter from them stating your account is paid in full. Then, send that letter to all 3 major credit reporting bureaus.
When you paid it, you should have gotten written proof from the debt collector. Dig up the old checks and try to get the collector to give you written proof. If you don%26#039;t have written proof, provide the credit agency with your cancelled checks and any other written documentation you can provide. Hopefully you will have enough written from the debt collector to get your credit fixed.
There are three credit bureaus who report credit. You have the right to dispute under the equal credit opportunity act. You will first need to obtain you 3 credit reports and then make disputes with each bureau. Best Wishes...

Freezing your account should only be done when identity theft is suspected. You can have that freeze taken out, all you need to do is contact all three credit reporting agencies, and send them proof of your identity and they will take the freeze out, and if you should find that you were the victim of identity theft you need to have your credit restored, also log in to www.bettercreditcontrol.com

Whichever bank the check is drawn off of is obligated to cash it for you. They may want to charge you for this service. It shouldn%26#039;t be much. If you have a checking account somewhere I would highly reccommend taking it to your own bank and depositing it. They will probably put a hold on it so you won%26#039;t have immediate availability but it would be for the best.

Second, the bank it%26#039;s drawn on must cash it, it%26#039;s it%26#039;s legitimate. They have the signature card, they can verify it. Have you called them to verify it?
Second, your bank will deposit it and may hold it. Typically $100 will be available that day or next day. $5000 day after and the rest after 5 days.
Third, if you have no bank and you have no bank because you%26#039;re on chexsystems or another reporting agency there are banks that will still give you an account and process this for you but may extend the hold. WaMu(www.wamu.com) is one(but their customer service is horrible) If you live near Pittsburgh or Cleveland, Dollar Bank(www.dollarbank.com) is another. Wachovia is yet another. All three of these banks and almost any bank no matter what will require that you are on chexsystems simply for overdrafts you did not pay back and not for a security issue(fraud, kiting, abuse)
If you are on chexsystems for a security issue my suggestion would be to go to the bank its drawn on or try to open a short term cd. 1month - 3 months. Better to have the money in 3 months than wait for the check to stale date. and you%26#039;d earn some interest. Most banks don%26#039;t check chexsystems for Time Deposits

If it is not a scam, DEPOSIT the check. No one will cash it. Deposit it into a savings account if you have to.

I just enlisted, also wanting to fly. They do ask about your credit when you sign up, and I think they may even run a check. Criminal record checks for the military include any juvinile record, even though the policetell you they disappear. The biggest reason for the checks is not flying, it%26#039;s the security clearance that you have to have as a pilot. Good luck!

Typically it looks really bad if you can%26#039;t find a co-signer. Even with your situation, it seems that you have no accountability. I suggest getting a renal reference letter form your current landlord, so you%26#039;re prospective landlord can see that you have a history of paying your rent on time. With my tenants, I require a co-signer or deposit equaling 2 months of rent, so if I have to evict them, it won%26#039;t be too costly.

As far as your situation goes, I would suggest finding a place like I have that is CREDIT FRIENDLY, and go from there. Hi there i have a very bad credit history and i was wondering if it was possible to be put on my mums credit card as an additional cardholder. Supposedly all my mum does is fills out my details on an application form and i sign it and gets sent away just to add my name onto it. Supposedly it doesnt matter about my credit history as they continue to base this on the conduct of my mums account as she is the actual account holder and she would be responsible if i ran up debt i.e. it would be up to my mum to determine whether or not i am a trustworthy person. I was trying to find any links on google that explain how the additional cardholder works. Someone did say that if my mum was to default with her payments then it would affect me. As your Mum would be the account holder all queries (non payment etc) would be her issue... If she has been a good customer for a long while,and with her agreement, I don%26#039;t think a credit check would be needed..must say this is only my thoughts on this.. Who knows?

for the emerald advance there are three basic requirements-you have to have done you taxes with hr block before, you have to have a current paystub or w2 (also a picture ID, but that%26#039;s a given), and owe no debt to hr block (also a given)
for the income requirements-must have 10,000.00 (or more) in yearly income, plus be expecting a 1000.00 refund.
good things about the loan-it is actually a line of credit which you can use again and again without paying renewal fees.

since u used them since 1999, that pretty much qualifies u there. also, they will want ur last paystub of the year. they will use that to guestimate how much u will get back in ur federal refund. however, the line of credit is due to be paid no matter what. it just kinda gives them reassurance that u will get back at least that much in your tax return so they know u can pay it off.
You need a pay stub showing over $10,000 income for the year, current picture ID and a estimated refund of at least $1000.

I%26#039;ve always recommended having the tenants obtain their own credit report and share it with you. Obviously it must be a recent version. It costs you nothing, allows them to see the same information you see to qualify them, and if they fail to qualify for your rental they can carry it to the next landlord for screening.
References are best when obtained from a former landlord who is NOT a relative of the applicant, or professional property manager. It is generally best to get a reference from a FORMER landlord rather than their current one, since the current landlord may say positive things to get them out of his unit even if he%26#039;s having a bad experience.
Other than that, there are businesses such as National Tenant Network that will provide (for a fee of course) screening information of the type you seek. They also have an in-house reporting vehicle of sorts that allows member landlords to share information on tenants.

Have them sign a waiver that allows you to run a credit check. Most often the applicant (tenant) pays the fee for the credit check.
They should also complete an application that includes their jobs (so you cna verify employment and their ability to pay the rent) as well as a chronological rental history of up to 10 years. No skipped years allowed without verifiable explaination. And then call/verify that history. Again, you are allowed to pay a non-refundable fee for the %26#039;application fee%26#039; that will cover your time and effort in doing the checks.
However - it sounds like you have tenants and they are already moved in. Unless they signed a rental agreement that stipulated that your approval of the credit check and applicaiton is required for them to stay, you%26#039;ll have little recourse if they turn out to be %26#039;bad%26#039; tenants. ..... Be very careful taking tenants. The eviction process is long and arduous.
