I was 6 days late on a credit card payment, will it affect my credit score?

I was late on the payment due to carelessness. Will it show up on a credit check?

It has to be 30 days late before it will effect your credit report.

What you need to be more worried about is the credit card company raising your interest rate. Read your user agreement....it says they have the right to do it if you are ever late with a payment, or if you go over your credit limit.

It has happened to me several times. My payment goes out several days before the due date, but because of mail delays, and their slowness in processing it, I%26#039;ve been 3-4 days late. Next thing I know my nice 12% interest rate rockets up to 29%. Sometimes they agreed to roll it back, other times I%26#039;ve quit using the card and got a new one with a differant company.

If more people did this, they would start losing a lot of business and maybe they would look at their stupid policy. But I doubt it.

phone the company, say sorry and give them an excuse, they probably can set the computer not to report you.

I doubt whether it will affect your score unless you are regularly paying late.

No, not if it was just the one time.

The company should not report it until it is 30 days late to the Credit Bureau, but some companies do charge you a late charge for being 1 day late.

No mostly of the banks send their tardiness after 30 days, a 6 weeks payment may not affect your credit points, but you can verify your self at www.equifax.comm or www.transunion.com

They%26#039;ll only report if you%26#039;re 30 days past due. Don%26#039;t make a habit of late payment. You probably defaulted on your interest rates, though. So expect higher interest.

Most late payments will not negatively impact your credit score unless they are more than 30 days late.

It all depends on your credit card company and your relationship with them. Most card companies would not want to lose your business, especially if you have been with them for a long period of time, with a good payment history.

If however this is not the only time this has occured, even if the payment is received 1 day late, according to the billing cycle, it is withing the credit card companies right to report you as being late.

You should definately keep an eye on your statements, and check your credit report in a few months. You can even do like the first responder mentioned and speak with customer service at the company and explain that it was an accident as well, as long as you don%26#039;t make a habit of it.

And as a few others mentioned, you may have a late fee, or even a higher interest rate from the company because technically you have defaulted on the payment. But again, most companies will not want to make good customers angry, so they may give you a %26quot;grace%26quot; period.
