A client I%26#039;m supposed to start with next week said



they are going to run a background check on me as a



formality.

normally entail? Is it a simple check for felonies,



or a credit check, or what? Just curious.

The answer to your specific case is probably all of the above. Credit checks are now usually pretty standard for those companies that bother doing a background check. They may ask you for family and personal references and emplyment history. A firm large enough for a human resources department only needs a few phone calls to verify this.



The criminal check is more difficult if the client has to pull the information himself. Except for minors, these records are publicly available, but some needs to research all the jurisdictions involve, one by one. Agencies, such as in law enforcement can do a %26quot;live scan%26quot; fingerprint background check. A compoter scanner is used to capture a print, and is hooked up to a huge, inter-agency data base that is able to pull criminal records from all over the county.



All this labor and checks takes time and money. How complete a check depends on how much money your client wants to spend.
