Why do companies do credit checks before considering employment?

Shouldn%26#039;t that be considered invasion of privacy? What if you are trying to repair your credit and require a better job to do that?

Also they check your credit to see if you will be a high risk of; A. wanting more money or B. they think that people with bad credit will be more likely to steal from the company.

If it shows that you are always in default on your house or car loan then how responsible are you going to be at your job? And on the same note, they will think that you will be looking for a higher paying job while employed with them because you are in debt...

These aren%26#039;t my views, I am a firm believer of second chances (I have been through bankruptcy so I know how it is to struggle) but I also have been through many HR and recruiting classes.

To see if you are a responsible person. The credit check will also show that you are working on cleaning up your credit, so it can help you get a job too. Yes this is an invasion of privacy and it will get worse before it gets better. Certainly you have heard about employers checking your health history? Next to come. Keep Smilin%26#039;!

I think that they look at your credit to see are you responsible and how much you like to spend money on!
