Why do employers do credit checks when applying for a job. Maybe I have had a string of bad luck.?

As a single mother I have a lot of bad credit. Will this actualy prevent me from getting a job no matter how much education or knowledge I have. I might as well shoot myself.

I work in credit for 6 billion $ a year company. They run credit checks. If you have bankruptcies, bounced checks, or have been sued or are being sued they won%26#039;t hire you. The reason is two fold. One, if you are assumed to have financial problems, it is thought you are at greater risk to steal from the company or customers. The second thought is that if you cannot handle your own finances, you will not be able to make proper financial decisions for the company. I do think that a person is more than just this, but from the employers perspective, they don%26#039;t know you from Adam (or Eve), so they make decsions based on what they have. In todays market, they have a larger pool of people to choice from, so they can be very picky.

They do this to see how responsable you are.

I feel the same way--how are you ever going to pay all of your outstanding bills-if no one wants to hire you because of your credit!!

Because they feel %26quot;how you handle your credit%26quot; will show them how you will handle other things.
